Handel's Messiah
Practice for our holiday performances of Handel’s Messiah with these helpful “Learn Your Music” tools:
- CyberBass provides synthesized recordings of each voice part (SATB), with your part prominent and others in the background. Tempo adjusts from half to double speed.
- Choralia offers similar synthesized human-like voices that sing the actual words. Offers fine-grained tempo control (50–150%) and three training levels:
- Your part only, with metronome clicks.
- All parts, with your part emphasized. Can adjust the volume level of your part relative to the other parts.
- All parts at equal volume.
- Chord Perfect goes one step further with professionally sung recordings of each part, with score displayed in the YouTube videos, allowing you to follow along, note by note. Links below are playlists for each part (separate videos within each playlist for each chorus).
Editorial comment: Many would find Chord Perfect’s use of professionally trained human voices a real advantage over the CyberBass synthesized notes and the Choralia synthesized voice simulations. Also, being able to see the score simultaneously on screen as well as hear the voices is another advantage over just looking at the score in the book.
-
Monteverdi Choir with English Baroque Soloists demonstrates the articulations and dynamics that director Alan Rowe would like us to emulate. These YouTube videos also show the score as the choruses are sung.
-
A PDF of the Messiah score is available for download to your computer or tablet (or phone?) if you so choose.
Note: YouTube videos are punctuated by annoying ads, which you can skip.
Choralia also has brief banner ads that appear while your chorus selection loads.
